Required Assignments:

 

Course Module – This is an Internet based activity where the students will visit specific sites and compile a list of at least 6 things they should do to stay safe on the Internet. They can then take a quiz to find out what they have learned.

Grade 4 Webquests – This is a listing of 5 webquests that are appropriate to fourth graders. They are on topics such as plants, ocean life, and the skeletal system.

Nutrition Webquest – Students will learn about proper nutrition by exploring the Food Pyramid, fast food facts, and serving sizes. They will keep track of what they eat for a day and then evaluate it. Then they will create a nutritious menu for an entire day.

Weblinks – This is a listing of good sites to visit if you are teaching the skeletal system, the Amish, government, and a variety of authors. The URL for each site is listed as well as a description of what can be found there. The sites are both for teachers and children. Teachers can use them to learn about a topic prior to teaching it and some of the sites provide excellent activities for students to complete.

Dropin Activities:

 

Dropin1 – This activity focuses around Beverly Cleary’s website. Students can explore Beverly Cleary’s characters, quiz themselves on books, and read about all of Beverly Cleary’s books. Then complete the activity by answering the questions.

Dropin2 – Learn about the government and how it affects your life. Travel through a virtual town and see how the government plays a role in almost everything in your life! This is an eye opening experience for children. Then can then complete the activity guide that accompanies the website.

Dropin3 – Learn about famous authors from Pennsylvania. Interpret the map by locating different cities, identifying the county that they are in along with their county seat. Then discover that many of the authors that you know and love grew up or live in Pennsylvania.

Dropin4 – Students can compare two type of literature by using a Venn Diagram.

Dropin5 – Students will compare the processes of photosynthesis by visiting two sites and reading about them. They will use a Venn Diagram to show the similarities and differences between the two processes.
