Objective:
Students will be able to access and communicate with other users.

Introduction:
The Internet gives you the opportunity to
find others who have similar interests and opinions as you.  One of these opportunities are chat rooms.  Chat rooms never close and you will be able to find someone, anytime of the day or night.  Please be advised that there are some sketchy characters in this world and some have them also have access to the Internet.  There is also some mature content found on the Internet that may be more graphic than you favor.  If you do not know a person who sends you a link and you are unsure of what it is, then do not activate the link by clicking on it. There are policies and etiquette that you should follow in the chat room and if they are not followed then you could be booted from the room.

Activity:
Go to one of the chat sites listed below or
select your own and register a user id.  Find a chat room discussion that you would like to participate in or are curious about.  Explore different rooms and "talk it up"!  Create your own room and become an operator.  Happy surfing!

For help on acronyms, how to use htmls in chat rooms and to see an entire database on how to make smiley faces please go to http://www.solscape.com/chat/ .  This site also provides a large collection of chat room sites that you may wish to investigate.

If you would rather, please check out one of the following sites:

http://chat.yahoo.com/c/dhtml/

http://www.talkcity.com/

Assignment:  Send your instructor an email (300 words) describing your experiences in cyberspace.  Make sure to include the site address, your user ID and a summary of your experiences--the good, the bad and the funny.
