Translation Elective

These translation sites are magnificent tools! I really wish I had known about them when I was taking College Spanish.   ; )  Five different ways this tool would benefit a teacher are…

1.       A way that translation engines would be beneficial is to help with communication between teachers and ESOL students.

2.       Another good use for translation engines is that these translators can be used to translate current events from foreign newspapers and journals which are written in the native language of the country which these papers originate.

3.       In addition, some of the translation engines are able to translate whole websites.  This allows access to educational sites that were previously unavailable due to language barriers.

4.       Translation engines also help foreign language students to check papers and to more effectively participate in the language they are studying.

5.       With English being a melting pot of many languages combined as a result of its colonization, the ability to translate using these engines also allows students to better understand words used in every ‘English’ that are actually words from foreign languages.  One example of this would be ‘déjà vous’.

6.       Using translation engines might also be beneficial in beginning language classes to help students understand the new language using cognates.

REWRITES

An elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of
years. He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him
fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear
100%.

The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the
doctor said, "Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really
pleased that you can hear again."

To which the gentleman said, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet. I
just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will
three times!"
