Search Engines
Google Google is the best all around search engine in my
opinion. It shows you how your keywords are used in the text of the web site,
and gives you the cached option to make that point easy to find on the web
site. It aslo gives you a free pop-up blocker, which is nice.
Yahoo Yahoo has really updated its website it runs almost
identical to google, that just find for me. The yahoo
homepage is a little cluttered and overwhelming, but once you get searching the
results come up in great order. Yahoo also gives you the cached option which I
really like.
Kid
Safe Search Engines
Yahooligans This is a fun site for kids, it is visually
apealing and contains a wealth of information. It contains information for
familes to learn how to search the web safely, and dedicated to safe surfing.
Ask Jeeves
Kids AJ kids is a coolsite because
kids can ask questions in plain English. It also has tools like thesaurus,
dictionary almanac and atlas, just to name a few. AJ
Kids also has a nice feature that you can see what other kids are asking an get answers to those questions too.
Dogpile
Dogpile like all meta
search engines is cool because it searches a variety of engines and gives you
the best of what they have to offer. It is also good because it tells you what
engines the site came up on and you can simutaniously look at the 10 from any
of the top 6 general search engines.
Vivisimo This site is nice because it breaks your searches
down into clusters. You can then search those find with a new keyword. The
clusters are also nice because you can break them down and investigate the
smaller grouping within the clusters.
Shopping
Search Engines
Froogle I could be biased but I like froogle. I like the way
the listings are displayed, and I feel that the listing are the most detailed. Also
being so comfortable using google, froogle feels like second nature. Its
really good if you know exactly what you are looking for.
Yahoo Shopping - Yahoo shopping is nice because it shows you a user
rating for the items that you are shopping for. It also let you compare similar
items. Also yahoo gives you a ton of categories to breakdown general searches
it be more specific.
Travel
Search Engines
Expedia This site is good because you can search specific dates.
You can search individual items like airfare, cars, hotel, cruises and
packages. You can also search and book activities for time dates you will be on
vacation prior to you arrival
Travelocity Travelocity is very similar to Expedia
in the ways that it searches flights, hotels, and cars. But, it doesnt give
you the extra vaction tools.
