Policies

The media center houses over 20,000 books, magazines, reference materials, computer software, videotapes/DVDs, and audio books. In order to keep the media center running smoothly, the following policies have been instituted. 

Circulation
All materials must be checked out at the circulation desk. Students may check out 3 items at a time. Please see the media specialist or media assistant to check out additional items for projects. 

Staff members may check out materials for either personal use or for his/her classroom for a long-term loan. All materials will be expected to be returned at the end of the school year. 

Loan Period
Books/Audiobooks may be checked out for 2 weeks (may be renewed unless another student places a reserve on item.

Current issues of magazines may be checked out overnight. Past issues may be checked out for 2 weeks.

Reference books may be checked out overnight. Students can pick up material at the end of the school day and are to return the item before first period of the following day.

Overdue Materials
Students will receive overdue notices through their homeroom teacher. 

Lost or Damaged Materials
In the event a material is lost or damaged, students are obligated to pay for the material. 

Selection Policy

In accordance with Montgomery County Public Schools’ Evaluation and Selection of Instructional Materials and Library Books, the media center will purchase materials to support the curriculum and goals of education. Additionally, the materials will reflect the diverse needs of all students represented within the school. All materials will be evaluated on an ongoing basis. 

Intellectual Freedom Policy
In accordance with the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, students should be provided with equitable access to books and resources for the community the library serves. No material should be excluded because of origin, background, or views contributing to their creation. Materials should present all points of view on current and historical issues. All persons should be guaranteed access regardless of origin, age, background, or views.
