ALL ABOUT ME!

Raised in Delaware by a welder and teacher, I was taught at an early age that education was the path to success.  As a little girl, my mother would often take me to the local library for story hour and she also made sure to read with me at home.  This instilled in me a love of reading as well as libraries.  After high school, I attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a degree in English and a minor in education.  I married the summer after graduation and moved to St. Croix, USVI to accompany my husband on his military duty while I taught high school English at a private school.  Upon returning to the mainland, I worked in business for two years and then decided to return to teaching English in 2001.  Since 2001, I have taught a majority of the time with eighth graders and most recently have held the position of English Resource Teacher and Team Leader.  Aching to return to sharing my love of books with others, I started on my journey as a media specialist in 2003.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the School Library Media Center is to provide equitable access to materials in a variety of formats to ensure students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and to explore personal interests in an open and friendly environment.

VISION

The overall vision of the School Library Media Center (SLMC) is to provide a welcoming environment where all members of the school community can access information and materials that support the curriculum and focus on personal interests.  The school library media center is a meeting place for professional growth and student study.  In addition, the SLMC provides intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats; provides instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas; and the SLMC works collaboratively with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.  Finally, the staff in the SLMC will nurture a love of reading through modeling and book talks and the pursuit of personal interests.
