5. Internet Hoaxes, Myths, and Urban Legends – This is my commentary after looking at a few websites that give examples of urban myths, hoaxes and legends that are creeping their way into e-mail mailboxes. Find out how to confirm if something you read is a myth or a fact.

 Drop Ins

Drop In #1- This is a simple activity to have primary grade students learn about famous African American writers who have impacted literature in honor of Black History Month. There is a link to Time for Kids web site and a short reading comprehension assignment.

Drop In #2 - Here is an activity to complete with primary students on basic haiku poetry. There is a link to a class web site so students can discover examples of haiku. There are questions to complete, as a culminating activity. Your students will write their own haiku poems.

Drop In #3- This activity is a follow up to graphing colors of M&Ms in snack sized bags. This is an activity dealing with the voting of a new color M&M and the countries that voted. Students use a world map from the M&Ms web site and answer related questions.

Drop In #4- This is an activity comparing fact and opinion. Students explore two different sites. One site is a non-fiction site about dinosaurs to gather facts about these creatures. The other site is kid created and tells opinions about famous children’s books.

Drop In#5- Here is an activity for third graders to look up information on Maryland and compare aspects of the state to that of Arizona, which is on the other side of the country. Students fill in a chart of information about both states and answer questions.
