Elective 1

I registered and became a member of www.games.yahoo.com. This could really be dangerous. I began by selecting Euchre, a game of my childhood in Michigan, but I was disappointed in the time of the download and the way the game was set up. So, I tried again and went to the puzzle games. I chose a game that did not require a download and could be played online. I tried Avalanche and I’m hooked. It really interested me because it required very little instructions and I was successful immediately. I made it up to level seven without much stress. The object was to click on the balls as they formed at least groups of three and make the balls vanish before an avalanche appeared. They even gave you a challenge maze round that I successfully managed for over five minutes. Next, I gave Diamond Mine a chance and concluded that I like games that are puzzle oriented and work in threes. I flew through the first level matching jewels in like sets of three. You could swap places with another jewel if you made your trio, and then the jewels will vanish, sending in replacements. If you couldn’t find a match, they gave you a hint, which saved me a few times.

Before today, I could safely say that I was not real fond of computer games. I don’t find myself with great hand-eye coordination, nor the patience to play. Since I chose games in the puzzle section, the games were more strategy oriented rather then requiring quick hand movement. When I did try Jewel Drop, a form of Tetris, I became quickly uninterested because I could not move the mouse fast enough. Now I am worried that I will be caught gaming on the computer and have to explain myself to my husband and two children. Or, I may just have to share the games with them.
