The following is my “Top 10” list of email suggestions for my
eighth graders. These are not in any specific order; they are all equally
important. Students should keep these in mind whenever they are emailing.
1.
Know your audience (recipients).
2.
Remember that your email can be
printed and kept FOREVER!!!
3.
USING ALL CAPS or BOLDING makes it seem as if you are
yelling at someone through the email.
4.
Make sure your message is clear
and concise. There should not be too
much room for interpretation… this could get you in trouble.
5.
Do not use the email to say
things that you would not say face-to-face with the recipient.
6.
Check to make sure you have the
recipients address correct- it can be embarrassing to send personal information
to a complete stranger instead of a friend.
7.
Keep the subject line specific
but minimal. You do not need to explain
your entire purpose in the line.
8.
Do not give out personal
information via email- you never know who will see it!
9.
If you get a suspicious email, DO
NOT open or download any attachments. It
is best to just delete the entire email. A virus or other disastrous program might be
woven in the email or attachment- be careful!!
10.
Check your spelling and grammar.
