AMERICAN EXPERIENCE WAYBACK – FLIGHT

 

You will read for information from an online children’s magazine prior to the flight unit in order to gather facts about famous pilots and their achievements.  You will complete a graphic organizer which will help you in writing in journalistic style.

 

PROCEDURES:

 

1.      You will need to print out a copy of the “Who, What, When, Where, Why and How organizer found at the following web site – http://www.teachervision.com/lesson-plans/lesson-2276.html.

 

 

2.      Then you will click on the following link which will access the online magazine – http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/kids/flight/index.html.

 

3.      At the above web site you will click on the “People to Know” article.  You will see a box with 9 question marks.  You will click on each question mark and read the information given about that famous person.

 

4.      After reading all the information, you will decide which person made the most important contribution to the progress of flight, in their opinion.

 

5.      On the graphic organizer you will write pertinent information about the person of your choice.

 

6.      Finally, you will compose a journal article on your person.  You will need to be prepared to support your choice with solid facts and be ready to share with the class.
