Web Link BibliographyThis Web Link Bibliography is a listing of a just few of the thousands of sites dedicated to the life, love, and death of Marilyn Monroe. The purpose behind the creation of this list is two-fold: First and foremost, being a Marilyn Monroe fanatic I feel it is my duty to be a reliable source of information on the infamous actress; Secondly, to set an example on how to research the biographical information on people solely through the internet. Some of the websites available out there are packed full with inaccurate information and disrespectful comments. As today’s students rely more and more heavily on the internet for their information, I feel it is necessary to teach them how to decipher what can be trusted and what needs to be disregarded.

Disclaimer: Marilyn Monroe posed for multiple nude photo-sessions throughout her career. If you venture into the photo galleries of any of the websites listed, you may come across some of her more ’scandalous’ shots. Be Advised!

Marilyn Monroe Websites

Her Life

1. The Marilyn Pages – Marilyn Monroe Biography and Images- This site is an over-all buffet style site which offers a little bit of everything. The essentials, biography, filmography, photo gallery, are all included, but no one category sticks out from the rest. The information presented on this site is, for the most part, accurate and dependable.

2. Marilyn Monroe at Glamournet- This site is full of information but is very chaotically put together. It has numerous links to different sites for further detail on movies, magazine covers, and photo shoots, but has little (if any) real logic to the outline of the site. I do like that the author has a section called “Marilyn On the Web” which allows you to follow different links to fan clubs and other Marilyn sites.

3. Norma2Marilyn- This is a great website that has many different facets concerning Marilyn’s life before she was known as “Marilyn.” The webpage is very well organized and offers a unique index of “MM Girls” from over the four decades since her death. “MM Girls” refers to the women that played Marilyn, or Marilyn-based characters, on television, stage, or film.

4. Time Magazine 100- Marilyn Monroe- This is a wonderful Time Magazine article that recognizes Marilyn Monroe as being one of the top twenty “Heroes & Icons” of the twentieth century. The article does a wonderful job of reviewing the trials and tribulations in Marilyn’s life and honors her as a strong, powerful, and intelligent woman.

5. About.com – Marilyn Date book- This website is a very interesting take on the standard biography. Instead of going through the years documenting the major events day by day, they have organized it into months and go year by year.

6.  Marilyn Monroe’s Hollywood- This is a very cool website which offers precise locations and addresses that Marilyn Monroe was associated with. These addresses include schools she attended, stores she patronized, the location of her Hollywood Walk of Fame star, and even where she signed her different contracts (very handy information to have if you are traveling to California).

7. Marilyn Monroe at Geocities- This is a very superficial website that holds some images and a brief biography on Marilyn but has nothing unique or notable about it.

8. Marilyn Monroe’s Place- This site has a very extensive biography, as far as websites go, and I really like how one section of the site is dedicated to dispelling myths and rumors that rage on about the famous actress. From my knowledge base the information on this site is accurate and the photo gallery is larger than most. At the time of this assignment the site concerning her final days was still under construction.

Her Fame

1. Marilyn Monroe’s Official Website- Of course, being the “official” website, this page is overflowing with different paths to take, links to follow, and pages to read. They offer a page focusing on Marilyn’s favorites and a gift shop for memorabilia. My extensive experience in hunting down Marilyn memorabilia taught me that although this shop has cute stuff, there is a wider variety (at cheaper prices) on Ebay.

2. Legend Marilyn Monroe- This is one of my favorite sites because it is thorough and offers a glimpse at her will in addition to a cute trivia game. The site is respectful and honors the work that Marilyn did both onscreen and off. My only problem is the blue text on black screen can be difficult to read.

3. Internet Movie Database- IMDb is a wonderful site for any entertainment related research. It offers a full list of Marilyn’s movies, which are then broken down into character/cast list, film release date, and personal reviews of the movie. I enjoy using this site because I am confident their information is updated and accurate consistently. It even includes her un-credited work in Scudda-Hoo! Scudda-Hay! in 1948 which is atypical.

4. Marilyn Monroe at Wikipedia- This is a very well organized (and cross referenced) website that allows the casual inquirer to click on the different hyperlinked words and investigate each subject further. The site is very well organized which allows for user friendly visits and research. I highly recommend this site if you are seeking biographical information.

5. Marilyn Monroe at Reel Classics- Although at the time of this assignment this site is still under construction, it still offers a rarity in Marilyn sites: movie clips! Check it out for some of the great scenes in movies like Seven Year Itch (one of my favorites!).

6. Goddess – Marilyn Monroe- A very nice tribute to Marilyn Monroe. This site offers a lot of great information on her life, love, and death. The pages dedicated to the poems she wrote is quite a rarity. I was impressed with the book list and song clips and song lyrics of her major musical productions. The photo gallery also contains a few rare shots of Marilyn when she was still known as “Norma Jean.”

7. E! Online – Movie Credits for Marilyn Monroe- This is the E! Online filmography webpage that allows each viewer to click on each of the thirty-eight links to movies written about her or movies she starred in. This list is not fully comprehensive and does not include Something’s Got to Give, which was the movie that went uncompleted after her untimely death.

Her Death

1. Crime Library- This website depicts Marilyn Monroe’s official autopsy report that has since been questioned and reviewed repeatedly. The actual text of the report is a bit graphic but the site also offers links to conspiracy theories and her legal last will.

2. CNN Transcript of Interview- This website is a direct transcript of an interview that was held on CNN celebrating the anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s death. I personally saw this interview when it was aired in 2003 and felt it held a lot of good information that helped portray Marilyn as a person instead of a celebrity.

3. Marilyn Monroe at Celebrity Morgue- WARNING! This website contains a photograph of Marilyn Monroe’s body post mortem. If the images of cadavers will bother you in anyway please skip this link. The circumstances surrounding Marilyn’s mysterious death are briefly touched upon in the dialogue, but the intimate details are left out.

4. Forever Marilyn Pages- This website is a fairly decent site that has a standard biography and filmography available. One exceptional aspect of this site is its unique dedication of part of the site to Marilyn’s crypt/gravesite in California. The presentation of the tribute is very respectful and tasteful. However, this site is very vulnerable to pop-up ads that can get very annoying as you navigate around.

5. Federal Bureau of Investigation – Freedom of Information Privacy Act- This is the FBI’s website with all declassified information concerning Marilyn Monroe. Most of the documents have at least some lines deleted with black marks but there are some pages that offer information concerning tapped phone lines and surveillance on her home. I have all 97 pages printed out and in a binder for reference; however I do not suggest this for the casual Marilyn surfer.

Her Gallery

1. Entertainment For You- Excellent photo gallery! This site has one of the most extensive collections that is organized into type of picture. The site also offers quotes by and about Marilyn, as well as her biography and generic statistics of her career.

2. Marilyn Monroe Archives- This is an excellent website that has a lot to offer any Marilyn enthusiast. The site is not fancy in appearance but has a lot to offer from recommended book lists to categorized photo galleries to even music clips from her musical comedies. I was very impressed at the extent of the book list and recommend this to anyone who is interested in learning more about Ms. Monroe.

3. Danamo’s Marilyn Monroe Online- This is a great website, one of my top five, which offers a multitude of different links, facts, trivia, and photographs. I like this website mostly for its page dedicated to disproving the urban myth that Marilyn Monroe had six toes on each foot. It shows the picture in question and several others to prove the claim otherwise. The photo gallery is organized by photographer and sitting, which is another attractive trait.

Marilyn Miscellaneous

1. Marilyn Monroe Links- WARNING! Before you follow this link please note that the advertisement bar on this page has posted sexually explicit images in the past. If this will offend you in anyway, please skip this link. This website is purely made up of links to other websites that have more information about Marilyn Monroe. In addition to the link index the site also offers a semi-decent photo gallery of 56 images. The official website is included in the index.

2. The Marilyn Museum- This is a very confusing website that offers Marilyn throw pillows on the same page as it offers diet suggestions. I am not entirely certain as to who is the author, or their motivation for this site, but it does give you links to other sites that may be more useful in your search for accurate information on the actress.

3. Quotations Search – The Quotation Page- This website is a cute collection of some of Marilyn’s most famous quotes. Of the quotations I have encountered over the years, this site offers a nice variety of accurate quotes from different times across her life.

4. Marilyn Monroe at Facade- This is a very, very unique website that studies and reveals the biorhythms, rune readings, numerology forecasts, and tarot card readings for Marilyn Monroe based on her birth date and birth name. Not exactly the most scientific resource, but it may be fun to get your own reading done.
