Dear Parent or Guardian,

Another year is upon us and with all the wonderful projects ahead of us, it’s time to get down to work. This semester, your child will be involved in several assignments that will be complimented by the use of internet websites and online research. I am notifying you of our student’s involvement with the internet because I am aware of all of the inappropriate sites that are readily available these days.

The school has a filtering system that will not allow websites that contain pornographic, violent, or vulgar images, information, or language to be accessed through the school’s computers. In addition to the filter, the student’s and I have drawn up an internet contract that states the rules of school appropriate use of the internet. Each student will receive a copy to be signed by you and your child and returned to me before they are allowed to access the internet for any purpose.

I will be providing the student’s with a list of approved web sites to access during each of the assignments so they can choose their preferred sites. The purpose of the pre-approved is to prevent blind internet searches that can offer inappropriate sites as results, but still allow for the student’s personal preference to be considered.

You will be receiving a copy of our class’s internet rules within the next week. Please take the time to review the rules of proper school internet use with your child and encourage them to follow these rules inside and outside of the classroom. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and depend on your support when dealing with such sensitive subjects as these. Please return the signed copy of the rules to me and keep the second copy to hang in your home office or next to the family computer.
