Introduction

In class, we have been reading The Hat by Jan Brett. There were many animals in this story. All the animals were described by what kind of animal they were except for Hedgie.. Let’s put on our detective hats and find out more about this animal.

Your Job

You will need to find out as much as you can about Hedgie and complete as many as the following tasks.

Find another book with Hedgie in it by the same author.

Act out the story of The Hat in a play.

(Optional) Make Hedgie Cookies for your audience.

Your Procedure

First, you must get your worksheet. If your teacher did not give you one, you can find one here.

1. What kind of animal is hedgie? Record your answer on the worksheet.

2. Find directions on how to draw this animal and draw one of your own on your worksheet.

3. Read the list of books from this author and find one or two which you think Hedgie might be a character in. Record the titles on your worksheet.

4. Find the directions for how to “Make The Hat into a play”. Your group will be required to perform this play in front of the class.

5. Get directions to make “Hedgie Cookies” and make them for the day you perform the play. (You may choose to ask the parents to help the students make the cookies at home or make them as a group during science time.)
