Educational Portals
Objective - Students will become more familiar with educational portals and starting points. (ISTE #1 , #7, and #9)
Objective - Students will create a list of the most appropriate educational portals and starting points for their curriculum.
Introduction - The internet can be a resource for thousands of lesson plans, worksheets, teaching ideas, and information. The amount of educational resources is so great that teachers need to know the best places to search for the information they seek. Educational portals can be used to eliminate much of the information not educationally based.
Activity - Students will search the internet using various educational portals in order to find the most appropriate for their curriculum. You may want to visit some of the sites below to see if they can work for you.
http://school.discovery.com/ - from Discovery Channel
http://www.educationworld.com/ - Resources for various areas of teaching.
http://www.gigglepotz.com/ - Materials for teachers and parents by grade level.
http://www.proteacher.com/ - Resources for K-6
Assignment - Your assignment is to create a document describing your curriculum area and a list of your picks for the top 5 educational portals for your curriculum. You will need to provide a link to the site, the URL, and a brief description of the site.
Submission - Post your activities as an html file or create a link to the file on your index page. You may choose to include your list as an attachment to an email to your instructor.
