Home Curriculum Connections

Objective: Students will create a web page which, will be linked to their school web page, that provides quality home/school connections in math, reading, and language arts.

Objective: Students will search the web for appropriate web sites to be used by students to help them increase their knowledge in the three areas mentioned.

Introduction: Every teacher has had a parent, at one time or another, ask them what they can do to help their child at home. One way to help them is to use fun, interactive web sites that are curriculum based. Many of the web sites out there will even notify the teacher by email that the student has been using the activities.

Every child needs enrichment on different levels, and the sites that are out there, allow each child/parent to determine what level they made need or what curriculum area they need help or enrichment in . Using the available free web sites is an effective way to reach every child no matter what their strengths or weaknesses are.

Activity: Use various web search engines to help you locate web pages that are interactive and fun for the students in each of the three curriculum areas.

Assignment: Create an annotated bibliography of at least 3 web sites for each curricular area. Write a thorough annotation that allows the reader to determine the usefulness of the website. Include examples of what can be found on each site and be sure to include the URL address at the end of each annotation.

Resources: A perfect example of what I am looking for is FunBrain.com. Visit this site and register as a teacher and explore all the bells and whistles that it has to offer you. Explore the different curriculum areas as well.
