We have already learned about many African-Americans who have made important contributions to the United States.  Now we are going to learn about a special little girl who did an important thing to help the Civil Rights movement, but she was so little she didn't even realize it.  Ruby was beginning the first-grade when she became the only student to integrate an elementary school in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Ruby faced a lot of angry people every day that year when she went to school and she was the only child in the class!  All of the other parents withdrew their children from the school to keep them from going to school with Ruby.  Ruby very bravely went to school every day, with U.S. Marshals escorting her.  Let's find out more about this brave little girl.

First click on the link Who is Ruby Bridges?  [http://www.mtnbrook.k12.al.us/academy/6thgrade/ruby/rubyt.htm] and watch the slide presentation about Ruby Bridges.
