Mapping Running Routs

 

Objective:  Students will be able to investigate and examine online mapping and logging sites.

Objective:  Students will be able to choose their favorite site and map a running route that is around the home.

 

Introduction:  More and more runners are beginning to hit the roads armed with technology.  In this day and age you will be hard press to find a runner who doesnŐt have some sort of device attached to there arm that is pumping music into their ears or calculating there heart beat.  Websites are popping up all the time to help runners find jogging trails or give the runner the ability to create their own route.  Gone are the days of driving your car around your finished route to see how far you really ran.

Activity:  After exploring the different running route sites choose one site to create your own running route that is near to your house.  If you feel so inclined go out and try out the route.  Did you find it easy to create the route?  Would this be a tool you would use instead of retracing your steps with a car?  Would you rather buy an expensive GPS to calculate your steps?

 

Assignment:  Part one: Write a review of your favorite running route map site.  Would you recommend this site to a friend to use?  Why or why not? 

Part two: Write another review on the site that was your least favorite.  Why did you not like the site?  What would you recommend to change from the site? 

 

Submission: Post your activities as an html file to your FTP folder, create a link to the file on your index page, and send your instructor an email notification containing a working hyperlink to the assignment (not to your index page) and the assignment file's URL.
