Course Module

Bulletin Board Module - This is a module designed to teach third or fourth graders about bulletin boards.  The module is designed to address Internet safety tips and give students the opportunity to communicate online with their peers.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/module.htm

Web Drop-In Activities

Rainforest People Web Drop-In – This is an activity for students to complete comparing themselves to the indigenous people of the rainforest.  A link is included to access information on people of the rainforest.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/rfpeopledropin.htm

Poetry Corner Web Drop-In – This is an activity for students about a poet.  Using a link, students can read about the author Jack Prelutsky.  Questions following the reading focus on reading skills and authoring poetry. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/poetrydropin.htm

Blast Off into Far-Out Facts Drop-In – This is an activity for students beginning a study on space.  The order of the planets and basic facts about the planets are researched through weblinks.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/spacedropin.htm

Year-Round School? Drop-In – This is a writing activity for higher-level elementary students.  The students read others opinions on year-round school while taking notes.  These notes are turned into a persuasive paragraph in support of their stance on the issue.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/schooldropin.htm

Do You Know…? Drop-In – This is a biography activity.  It allows students to choose a person from history of interest, research them online and fill out a timeline of their life to be presented in class.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/biodropin.htm

Desert Webquest – This webquest leads children through learning about the climate and conditions of deserts in general and the Sahara Desert, specifically.  Students then learn about the Tuareg people of the Sahara Desert and use their new knowledge to create a plan to travel in the desert.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/desertwebquest.htm

Internet Use Agreement – This is an agreement drawn up for use with elementary students.  It lists their responsibilities in order that they can retain their privilege to use the Internet in school.  It requires both a parent and a child’s signature.  This is designed to protect the children from Internet predators and inappropriate material.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/kellya/agreement.htm
