Search Engine Index – This is a webpage where the top search engines were chosen and placed into various categories, including general, kid safe, media, news, and meta search engines.  There are descriptions of each search engine, allowing the user to chose the engine to best suit their needs.

Copyright Assignment- Two hypothetical situations are analyzed to determine whether copyright infringement has occurred.  The situation is described and the reasoning is given as to whether any laws have been broken.

Course Module- This is an assignment where students learn to use Internet research and reference sites.  The must review four different sites and give a description, along with recommendation and commendations.  The students must then find two research sites on their own using their favorite search engines.

WebQuest- This WebQuest gives the students a mission to learn about and develop an effective fitness plan.  The students are introduced to the various components of fitness.  They then assess a client and develop a four week fitness program.

Drop-Ins

 

Web Drop-in 1 – This link is an introductory assignment for a basketball unit, familiarizing the students with the history of the sports, as well as the rules.  The students review the links and then answer related questions.

Web Drop-in 2 – This link introduces a fitness unit.  There is a link forwarding the students to a site where fitness myths are debunked.  The students then answer various true/false statements.

Web Drop-in 3 – This is an assignment focusing on the economy.  We review the various factors that are used to measure economic health.  The students then review some important terms and then interpret charts to answer questions.

Web Drop-in 4 – This is an assignment to prepare high school debate students for a debate on whether the phrase “under God” belongs in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The students will use what they learn in this assignment to participate in the debate.

Web Drop-in 5 – In this assignment, students learn about resting and target heart rates.  They measure their own heart rates under different conditions and then graph the data in order to effectively compare.

Internet Citations- This is a look at various sites focusing on citations of Internet media.  The best site for use in the classroom is chosen and described.

PE Lesson Plans – These are some of the best sites for finding PE/Health lesson plans.  There are many plans on each of these sites that the teachers can browse through and get ideas from.   All these sites have a good amount of plans for elementary through high school teachers.

Worksheets – Teachers can be very busy people and they often do not have time to spare for creating all the worksheets they need.  In this elective, various sites that have ready made and printable worksheets for Health and PE teachers are analyzed.

Virus Tip Sheet - This tip sheet provides valuable information about viruses and how to protect your computers from the many viruses out there.  General information on viruses is given, including how they are transmitted and how to protect your computer.

Form Letter for Virus Hoax Email - This is a form letter template that can be used to reply to anyone who sends a hoax email warning you of a virus.  It gives some general information about viruses and forwards the recipient to sites where they can learn more about viruses and hoaxes.

Miscellaneous

 

Silicon Snake Oil- Clifford Stoll is an author who wrote a book about the detriments of the Internet movement.  He discusses what in his view are many negatives associated with technology and its increasing role in our lives.  In this assignment, I look at a few of his views and discuss my thoughts, most of which are opposing to his.

Comparison Shopping- There are many ways to shop on the Internet.  This assignment looks at the different types of online purchasing methods and gives a few examples of each.
