Language Arts Online Clips  This website has a wonderful variety of favorite books that are made into videos.  Students can get on independently and listen to their favorite stories and then write about the story elements or talk to a friend about the story.  5/20/06  http://www.thinkport.org/classroom/onlineclips/languageartsclips.tp

Reading Rockets: Books and Authors  Authors actually talk to kids about how they get ideas and other interesting things that students need to learn when becoming good writers.  I would use this as a whole group lesson to get inside the mind of a famous children’s book author.  5/20/06  http://www.readingrockets.org/books/

School Wordsearch Puzzle Maker  Teachers can makeup a word search to help kids identify and read spelling words or high-frequency words.  Just type in the words you want to find!

Author Studies:

Doreen Cronin

“Diary of a Worm”: A Children’s Tale with a Twist  Doreen Cronin talks about her book, Diary of a Worm and how she came up with the idea.  I would use this for an author study so that the kids can actually hear what she has to say about creating a book.

Author Websites:

These websites will help engage the student and give the teacher some more information on the authors used in class.  Next year, my goal is to have the kids learn about a new author every month.  Together, we will create a non-fiction book about that author using things that we learned.  These websites have biographical and book information.  All were last visited on 5/20/06
