Shared Calendars

Objective:  Students will examine and investigate how to use shared calendars

Objective:  Students will create a shared calendar to use for their classroom.

Introduction:

Have you ever wanted an easy way to inform parents of upcoming activities in your class or school?  Has a student ever forgotten his or her homework at school?  Well have you ever heard of a shared calendar?  A shared calendar is exactly what it sounds like.  It is a calendar on the web that many people can see.   Teachers can use these in a variety of ways including, but not limited to:

Activities:

Read and Explore Google Calendar and Airset to decide which calendar will work for you.

Read an article to learn all about Airset from Laptop Magazine.

Airset.com:  Click on the Learn More and Watch a Demo buttons.  This website has a place specifically for school groups.  Can you think of any other ideas on why teachers would want to have a web-based calendar?

Google Calendar: Take a tour of Google Calendar and decide if this one is the right calendar for you.

Assignment:

Never write a reminder to parents again!!  Using Airset or Google Calendar create your own shared calendar.  Create a purposeful calendar (whether it is for homework, volunteers, or anything else you can think of) with at least 4 events on it and then share it with at least 5 other people.

Submission:

Then on the discussion board, entitled Calendar Sharing, please post a narrative (of about 300 words) about your experience on either website and why you choose that website over the other.  Also include whether or not you will use this activity as a teacher.

Remember to make sure that you make me one of your group members for your calendar and send to me the introductory email so that I can look at your calendar.
