Elective 10: Collaboration

Symbolic Migration:  This website has 2 things that we teach in 1st grade: butterflies and Mexico.  This collaborative project has your class make butterflies in the fall and then send them to Mexico when the real butterflies would migrate down.

Letters to Santa:   This project would be a great way to introduce letter writing.  The kids will not only have to write a letter, but through this activity they will get a response from “Santa”, which will make the whole activity more meaningful.

Dr. Seuss Internet Project:  Students in first grade love reading Dr. Seuss books.  They are normally the first “real” books that the students can read independently and they take a lot of pride in that.  This project will help the students learn about the man and talk about their favorite character.

I Lost My Tooth:  First graders are always excited when they lose their teeth.  This internet project has the students graph loose teeth from around the world.  The students can also write about losing their teeth.

PestWorld:  Boys love animals – especially the icky ones.  This web project will motivate all and have them learn about these gross pests.  Find out why they come near you and what they do to help the environment.
