Online Collaborative Projects

This site contains ten links to collaborative online projects for students in Health and Physical Education.  These projects sites provide information and research links to a variety of subjects.  Projects can be implemented by a student or a class and can be shared with others around the world.

HIV/AIDS – This project site provides information about the HIV/AIDS epidemic throughout the world.  Students can research information, post thoughts and ideas to discussion boards, and implement project ideas such as fundraisers, play performances, teaching an awareness class, beginning an awareness campaign and writing a petition.  (9-12 grades)

Fitness Plan – Students will research online what it means to be fit – focusing on exercise, diet and stress.  They will create a fitness plan to help Scoobie, a beloved dog, to get onto the road of a happier, healthier, fit lifestyle.  Students can be creative with their fitness plans, either creating one online or in a storybook format.  (PreK-7 grades)

Global Grocery List – Here students can research and enter the prices of different groceries in their area.  Then they can submit their findings and compare them to other places in the United States and the world.  (4-6 grades)

Exercise Video – Students can create their own exercise videos.  Teachers could work with classes in other school districts to share videos and use them for P.E. classes.  (3-12 grades)

Water in Africa – Students will become familiar with general concepts related to water-borne illness and how water affects people’s health by viewing photographs and reading vignettes collected from in-service Peace Corps volunteers.  Students can work on collaborative activities to create public service announcements and campaigns to fight against water-bourn illnesses.

Athletic Facility – Students will research and construct an athletic facility to meet the needs of their school or community.  Students will present their findings in a presentation to others (preferably the school board or community group or committee) for review.  (6-12 grades)

Heart Rate – Students will learn about the inner workings of the heart and conduct experiments to explore the most effective ways in which exercise can strengthen the heart.  Students will create presentations based on their research and findings to educate others about this issue.  (3-12 grades)
