Citing Internet Sources

I was glad I was able to do this elective activity because I am very unfamiliar with citing resources from online sources.  I used information strictly from print during my undergraduate years.  The first time I had to cite an Internet source was last semester for my graduate classes.   I had no idea how to do this correctly, so I ventured into a search engine to try to find a site to help me.    I actually used the http://www.apastyle.org that we are looking at for this assignment.  I have always used the APA style to cite resources.  However, in viewing the MLA sites for this activity, I think that I would choose to use this style with middle and high school students.  I think that there is less confusion with this style as far as dates, numbers and parenthesis.  The citations seem to use fewer characters than the APA style, which clutter the citation, therefore making it easier to understand.   Of the websites in this activity, I would probably send students to the following site for reference to citing online information:  http://www.thewritesource.com/mla.htm .  I liked this site because I think the organization of information on this site has been done well.  The sample citations are listed in an easy to understand fashion with headings in nice, bold fonts.  Also, the detailed information is limited to a few paragraphs at the beginning of the page.  I think students would get lost in some of the other sites searching for the actual examples of types of citations.  I would, however, like to do activities in which students have to learn both MLA and APA styles, especially with high school students.  Most likely they will be using the APA style when they enter into college.  The Write Source page has examples of both of these styles on the site.

I also wanted to share a site I came across that I would probably use.  It lists several different styles of citing sources.  I also like the way it is presented in a simplified list with color coded sections.  Here is a link to that site:  http://www.liunet.edu/cwis/cwp/library/workshop/citation.htm .
