Abortion – How Do You Feel?

 

 

 

Introduction

 

            Abortion is currently such a hot topic in the news.  It has always been a very passionate area of discussion.  Many political decisions today are being made today depending on views of abortion.  In this activity you will view two articles on abortion – one is for abortion (pro-abortion, pro-choice) and one is against abortion (pro-life, anti-abortion).  After reading both articles, you will be asked to consider your stance on abortion and be ready to debate this topic with your classmates

            Please read the following web pages on abortion.  You may print them out to read later if you need to.  Then begin to formulate your thoughts, feelings and beliefs on this subject.  After reading the articles below, complete the list of activities.

Activities

 

1.      After reading the articles above, create two lists in your health journal – one containing Pro-Choice concepts and the other containing Pro-Life concepts.  Circle the concepts that you agree with and draw a line through the concepts that you disagree with.   (You may agree or disagree with concepts from both lists.)

 

2.      Begin to formulate your thoughts, feelings and beliefs about abortion.  Write a few paragraphs about your stance on abortion.

 

3.      In small groups, combine with students who share your feelings on abortion.  Combine your ideas to present one paper per group on your position for or against abortion.

 

4.      Decide who will speak on which thoughts, feelings and beliefs about abortion.  Each member of the group is responsible for relaying a part of your paper.  Present your position on abortion to the class.  Discuss as a class each group presentation.
