Discovering the Elements of Music

To begin our unit in the appreciation of music, we need to discover the basic elements out of which music is made.  With analysis we will come to understand how the composer combines these elements to give form and meaning to a composition.  Greater awareness of musical processes and terms allows the listener to hear and comprehend more.

·        Click here to discover the basic elements of music.

(or visit - http://www.cartage.org.lb/en/themes/Arts/music/elements/elemofmusic/main.htm)

·        Open a word document and create a definition for each of the eight words presented.

·        When you click on each word, definitions and examples will be given.  Create your own definition.

·         Also, add any other unfamiliar words/terms to your list.  We will review these in our next group discussion.

·        Don’t forget to add your name to your document before you print it out and place it into your music folder.
