INTERNET
COURSE MODULE
OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to
bookmark different websites that cover some aspect of physical education.
INTRODUCTION: The internet is full of
helpful websites and we need to hold on to these websites through bookmarks. However, what the internet does lack is good
physical education websites. Therefore,
a person browsing the internet for good quality teaching or coaching
information for the physical education teacher is very difficult and sometimes
down right frustrating. Due to the lack
of “classroom”, the physical education world is not very high tech. What this means is that technology is not
necessary for this concentration and therefore, there not many websites. There are a few for the elementary but not
many for the secondary. This course
module will help you bookmark these valuable few websites so you can refer to
them when you need them. Too often we
come across a good website and do not remember the web address. This is why using the bookmark feature is
crucial.
ACTIVITY: There are a few reasons
why a PE teacher may want to bookmark several websites.
Lesson Plans: Though there are not as many as other subject
areas, there are a few good websites that have physical education lesson plans.
Teaching Ideas: They always say, do not re-invent the
wheel. Therefore, having websites where
a teacher can find good sound teaching strategies or ideas is a great idea.
Coaching Ideas: These sites are very helpful especially when
you are teaching a sport or skill you are not familiar.
There could be other reason
why a PE teacher might want to bookmark certain websites. There are more and more physical education
teachers using technology as part of their curriculum and having a good online
library of information is a good start.
Every internet browser gives
the user an opportunity to bookmark the user’s favorite website addresses. If you are using Internet Explorer, it is
called “Favorites” with a star before it.
When you click this button, a list of your favorites will be display on
the left side of the browser. In this
screen, you have the option to “add” websites to your favorites. Once you select add, a new display box will
appear prompting you to select a folder to add the new website to. You can also create a new folder to put
websites in. Using Netscape is a little
more complicated and you can research that by clicking the following link http://wp.netscape.com/bookmark/index.html.
ASSIGNMENT: For this assignment, you
will be required to bookmark ten websites.
These websites must have some content useful to a physical education teacher. These bookmarks should be in folders that
describe what type of information you will find on the website. For example, you may have a bookmark in a
folder call “Lesson Plans” or “Coaching Techniques.”
SUBMISSION: Since you have not
learned how to screen capture, you will submit this assignment using Word. Using a Word document, create a list of website
bookmarks under the appropriate folder.
For each website; list the name of the website, a description of the
website, and the web address. Email the
document as an attachment to the instructor.
