Web Quest: A Web Quest: Road Trip WEST

This
web quest serves as a tie-in to the book Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech. The students take a road trip to one of three
western destinations. They work in groups and take on roles as
Driver/Navigator, Weather Watcher, Cultural Commentator and Recorder.

computer viruses. Topics include the
definition of a virus, how a computer can get a virus, how to avoid viruses,
and hoax viruses. A sample form letter
is included that can be sent to those who send you hoax virus warnings.

put its “best foot forward” when putting up a web page. There are things to avoid in hopes of making
a useful site, and things to include that will make your cyber media center a
place where the community will visit repeatedly.

site introduces safety on the web. The
role and responsibility of teachers, parents and students is discussed. A link to a sample letter
to parents about what the web offers is provided. The site also offers a safety
education checklist that parents can use to help discuss issues with their
children. A second link to a sample contract
between teacher and student is included.

phases of the Moon. The lesson is

book Julie of the Wolves by Jean
Craighead George. It gives students a
close-up look at Alaska and asks them to think about the things they learned by
writing a letter to their families about their “trip” North.

This site provides students with a short introduction to the
poetry of Jack Prelutsky. The students
visit a site that gives biographical information about the poet; they get to
experience listening to the author reading one of his poems and practice some
word warm-up techniques helpful in writing poetry.

This site provides 5-6 grade
students a chance to learn more about the theatre. This is a pre-activity for the reading aloud
of Susan Cooper’s book, King of Shadows,
which tells the tale of a young actor who steps back into time to act in one of
Shakespeare’s plays.
