The Physics Classroom

This site provides great tutorials for a variety of different topics within physics.  Each tutorial contains information about that topic, animations, and problems for the students to solve when they are finished reading.  The site is primarily geared toward an upper level or honors level general high school physics class.

Sparknotes

This site is another great site filled with study guides on pretty much every topic within a high school general physics class.  It contains detailed information on every topic and the major terms and equations involved with that topic.  Sparknotes also has sites for many other subjects as well.

Hyperphysics

This is probably the most detailed and comprehensive physics tutorial site out there.  It has contains very informative descriptions of every topic in physics.  It also helps students through the more difficult mathematical aspects of physics.  The site is geared more to a college level physics class, but with teacher assistance it could easily be used in a general high school class.

Fear of Physics

This was a very interesting site that contained a lot of fun little activities and information to get students more excited about physics.  Physics is definitely a subject that scares a lot of people and this site does a great job of making the more difficult topics a little easier to grasp and understand.  It doesn’t completely explain everything, but it does provide the students with a basic understanding.

Demonstrations

Interscience

This is a really cool site that has fun and exciting demonstrations for almost every topic in physics.  Demonstrations like these are intended to give students a real life picture of physics at work, while informing them of the physics involved.  It also works great in exciting the students about physics.

Virtual Labs

This is another great site for really cool demonstrations.  This site contains a lot more demonstrations, but is also a little tougher to move around in and find what you are looking for.  It does organize things nicely, but it just takes a little more work to find the demonstration that works best for your class.

Physics Animations

This is another great site for demonstrations, although I would have to say that the demonstrations are more for information and less for exciting students.  The site is also a little difficult to move through and doesn’t contain all that many demonstrations.  It works great for upper level physics class, though, where the topics get a little more outrageous.

Problems

Physics Problems

If you are looking for example problems to use for any topic within any physics class, then this is the site to go to.  It has an incredible amount of problems available for you to use or for students to access and answer on their own.  The only downside is that it doesn’t use pictures with it, so if you wanted to make the appearance of a problem worksheet look better you would have to get the pictures elsewhere.

The Interactive Physics Problem Set

This is another great site for example problems for any physics class.  Within this site all the problems are organized based on chapters, so it can get a little more difficult to find the perfect problem if your text doesn’t match their text.  The problems are great in that they walk students through stepwise to ensure a great understanding of the material.

Organizations

American Institute of Physics

This is the official website of the American Institute of Physics and is a great tool for finding a massive amount of information on anything from current research to educational services.  This is definitely a great site for any physicist of any age.

Society of Physics Students

This is the official website of SPS and is also a great tool for everything involved with physics.  This site works well in keeping us physicists aware of what other physicist are doing, as well as information on anything important happening in the physics world.  Anyone who is currently or has ever been a physics student should definitely check this site out.

American Association of Physics Teachers

If you are currently a physics teacher or you plan to be a physics teacher and you are not aware of this organization then shame on you.  This site has anything you could ever want for your classroom.  Whether it’s ideas for lesson plans, or theories about the best ways to approach certain topics, or even just cool thing to decorate your classroom with, this site has it and makes it available to you.

American Physical Society

The American Physical Society is an organization similar to the American Institute of Physics.  It provides anyone interested with access to journal articles, current physics news, and a ton of other great information.  This is another site that should be checked out by anyone interested in physics.

Physics Central

This is another great site that provides information on anything new that’s going on in the world of physics.  It also takes a look into the lives of the more prominent members of the physics society.  This is probably not the site that upper level physicists would go to, but for those just getting into it, it has a lot of cool stuff on it.

Miscellaneous

Exploratorium: Sport Science

I came across this website when I was just surfing around on the internet and it looked like a really cool site.  It breaks down the physics of a lot of the actions that occur in a variety of different sporting events.  If you are trying to find ways of making physics exciting and get your students interested in physics, then this is a great site to use because it takes everyday things and talks about the physics involved.

Discovery Channel: Thrills, Chills, and Spills

This isn’t the most informative sites, but it is a really cool thing to do when discussing motion.  The concept here is to simply create a roller coaster using different pieces.  The ultimate goal is to create the most thrilling roller coaster ever.  There is physics involved in the measuring of the thrills, although they don’t discuss it, because it is based on g-forces.  It is simply a fun activity for the students and is something that can be discussed later, at which point the physics can be brought in.

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory

This is the official website of the Fermi Lab where they do a lot of really cool stuff with accelerators.  It is in this lab where they were able to discover the identity of a few of the known quarks.  This a great site to let students go to and look at all the exciting stuff going on in physics, while being informed of a little physics in the process.
