Teacher-Made Websites

Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School

Dolores Gende created a website that provides her students with access to an incredible amount of information.  Part of the site is only applicable to her specific students, in that it involves the syllabus and class information.  The rest of the site works great for any student or teacher looking to find resources on the internet.  The site is directly geared toward A.P. physics students because it also contains links to the A.P. physics official sites, but it also contains tutorials, demonstrations, and problems that could be used with any high school physics class.  My three commendations for this site are that it contains an amazing amount of very worthwhile resources, it is very easy to use and circulate throughout the site, and it provides students and teachers with links to almost every site having anything to do with physics.  My first recommendation for this site would be to update the information a little because it does not include many great physics sites that have only come about recently.  My second recommendation would be to liven up the appearance of the site because the site is pretty dull and boring as it is.  My last recommendation would be to improve the ability to find the site by using better key terms.  I found this site awhile back and then tried to return to it, but had difficulty finding it again.

Glenbrook South

This is another great site that was created by a group of physics teachers at Glenbrook South.  The site is also geared toward any high school physics class, but is primarily for upper level or college level physics classes because the extensive amount of mathematical principles involved.  My three commendations for this site are that it provides very detailed explanations on a variety of different topics, the site is easy to use, and it provides students and teachers with tutorials, problems, demonstrations, and projects that can benefit greatly.  My first recommendation would be to continue creating tutorials for the remaining topics in physics.  The site is still being completed, so they still have a lot of topics that aren’t included.  My second recommendation would be to provide students and teachers with links to some of the better known physics sites.  My last recommendation would be to also improve the appearance.  There is a ton of cool illustrations and graphics out there for physics and it is very simple to include them on a website.  Take advantage of the vast amount of resources that are on the internet.
