Filtering
Pros Cons
|
There is a lot of
material out there on the internet that is inappropriate for children to be
viewing. |
Preventing children from
observing whatever they want on the internet violates their first amendment
rights. |
|
Parents should have a
say in what their children are exposed to. |
Filters usually end up preventing
a lot of worthwhile sites from being accessed because of ridiculous
connections to vulgar material. |
|
The information that is
being filtered only leads to more problems later in life. |
When filtering is
present it limits the use of the internet to only filter-accepted sites,
which cuts the accessibility dramatically. |
|
If these vulgar sites
are available in computer labs or libraries, then many children may end up
observing it by simply walking by. |
Most filters don’t work
properly and a lot of the material that is supposed to be filtered is able to
get through still. |
|
Most children are not
old enough to make rational distinctions on what is right and wrong and would
not be able to see something they observe as being wrong. |
The argument about
adults being wiser and therefore should be allowed to decide for their
children is ludicrous. Based on this
theory, anyone can decide what someone can and can’t do as long as they are
wiser than that person. |
