Spiders    

 

Introduction

How long does it take a spider to spin a web?  Do all spiders spin webs? In the book, Charlotte’s Web, one of the main characters is a spider.  There are many interesting facts about spiders that the author, E.B. White, shares within the story. 

 

Description

After reading chapters five, six and seven in, Charlotte’s Web, discover more information about spiders as you compare Web-Building spiders with Wandering spiders in this fun Internet activity. 

 

Activity

Complete the following directions:

 

1.  Go to:http://www.abcteach.com/Spiders/compare.htm and read about    Web-Building spiders and Wandering spiders.  You will need to bring a Double Bubble Map from the Writing Center with you.

 

2.  Complete the activity described at this site.  (You will be creating a poster comparing the two types of spiders.)

 

3.  If you would like more information about these spiders, go to:

http://www2.lhric.org/pocantico/spiders/spiders2.htm - At this site you can read more about similarities of all spiders.  You will also find specific types of Web Weaving spiders and Non Web Weaving spiders.  You could include any of these interesting facts on your poster.

 

4.  We will share the posters during reading group time in two days.  Be prepared to discuss the similarities and differences between Web-Building (Web Weaving) spiders and Wandering (Non Web Weaving) spiders at that time.
