Developing Educational
Standards
http://www.edstandards.org/standards.html
This site is helpful for any teacher who lives in one state and is planning to move to another state to work. If anyone wants to know teaching standards for a particular state they can go to this website, click on the state they prefer, and find out what teachers need to qualify as a candidate. In addition to teaching standards, it also has a break down of standards for each subject matter. Any teacher thinking of teaching another subject can use this website to look up what is mandatory for that subject and additional classes one might need to take. The site is very plain but easy to use.

National Council of teachers in English
http://www.ncte.org
This site is helpful for any teacher planning lessons for English classes. I like this website because it’s set up like an open forum. Teachers are welcomed to create their own website and link it to this site which provides ideas and teaching strategies for any teachers looking for new ones. There is also a section for teachers to create a school wide writing policy so each school teaches the same standards. I think this is a good idea for students because if children change from one school to another, at least they know what is expected of them in their English classes. The website is divided into two parts; secondary and elementary. It doesn’t matter what grade you teach, there are plenty of fresh ideas and suggestions to better themselves in the classroom.

http://www.cartwheelfactory.com/cartwheel.html
I’m adding this website because I thought it was fun and interesting. This was my favorite site to visit. I think it’s because it was colorful with lots of pictures but it was easy to follow and read. PE teachers could use this website to get learning tools on how to instruct students on tumbling and how to teach a student for the first time to cartwheel. I like how this website is geared towards teachers but it’s also inviting to parents as well. If parents want to teach their children at home how to tumble, this website provides easy instructions to follow. This site gives instructions to teachers on how to inquire these types of activities in their lesson plans. It tells them what type of material they need and where they can buy them.

For Student
Amendments to
the Constitution
http://www.house.gov/Constitution/Amend.html
This site would be good for students to do research on the amendments of the constitution. This site explains all our amendments and discusses how they were installed into our constitution. The site is easy to follow because you only have to scroll down the page to gain information. There are no pictures to distract the students but it might become boring since there are no pictures or color to the site.

http://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/graphics/13mapnew.html
This site is a very good interactive site. It has a lot of visual aides for students to help them with different subjects that social studies deal with. I like this site because it offers a lot of information about history in a form of entertainment. Not only are students learning but it can be fun and keep the students attention. The site offers many other links to other pages that provide additional information concerning religion, 13 colonies, time-lines, and war. Teachers could also utilize this website to enrich their lesson plans.

This website is useful to anyone who wants to know more background information surrounding the USA’s involvement in the War over Terrorism. It has a place for students to join in chat rooms to discuss questions, concerns, or make comments. It has other links that allow students to make purchases, visit a photo gallery, and read any important news that relates to this topic. It’s a good site to visit to learn more about Afghanistan and it’s culture.

The American
Civil war home page
http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/warweb.html
I would recommend this site to anyone who has to do a project on the Civil war because it has so much information on the page. It has pictures of battles and President Lincoln and reasons for the war. It gives background information concerning what led up to war and gives accounts of what people went through back then. The layout of the web page is very organize and easy to follow and access. The page is updated often with new material that gives it a fresh look.

http://www.historyplace.com/
This site is one of my favorites to visit since I teach high school Social Studies. I recommend this site to anyone who wants to brush up on their history skills. This site gives information on all the wars and battles this country has had to endure. The site is very detailed and specific about explaining our past. It has summaries, photo gallery, and important dates that are in chronological order. This is another good site to suggest to students if they are doing a research project on people, places, and times that were significant to our history.

http://cagle.slate.msn.com/politicalcartoons/
This website could be used for a fun activity to promote world issues. Teachers could use this site to get warm-ups or drills as a fun way to express what our society is dealing with. It’s very appealing to the eye because it’s a collection of cartoons which makes fun of any controversial topic. Students could relate to this website since the issues at hand are put into a comedic form. I really felt this site was an interesting site to visit because I love political cartoons

http://www.newseum.org/
This website is a fun interactive site that give students a chance to click on any news heading printed on a newspaper or magazine. This site keeps track of all the big time stories and current issues in our society. It could be used to compare different points of views from different countries pertaining to the same topic. It’s an easy operating site that allows anyone to retrieve any headline that made the front page of a magazine!

http://www.afgan-info.com/TALIBAN.html
This site is good because students have questions that pertain to the war in Iraq and teachers could advise students to visit this site or teachers could visit this site and gain more information on the issue. It gives an in-depth look at the regime and how it began. It explains the rankings and who is in-charge. It gives students the chance to read about terrorism and it explains why we’re fighting in Iraq. I think it’s a good informational source because I know before Sept 11th, most people never heard of the Taliban.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/war/wwtwo/index.shtml
This site is good for anyone who is a visual learner. This site is filled with pictures and captions trying to depict WW11. It gives clear evidence of what the soldiers and families of soldiers had to encounter through desperate times. It provided historical facts and statistics about battles, people, and places that were significant during that time period. It also provides a link for children between the ages of 9 and 7. Elementary teachers could inquiry this site into their classes. The site is very organized and laid out in a time line, which makes it easy to follow. I recommend this site to anyone who is doing a report on WW11

Political Resources on
the net
http://www.politicalresources.net/
This site would be a good site for a political science, government, or classes dealing with politics. The site describes all aspects of different countries government and background information explaining why they chose to govern their country the way they do. Any student who needs to find out of countries beliefs on politics should visit this site. There are descriptions on every country about who runs it, their beliefs on International policies, on domestic policy, and the countries flag. I think it’s an easy site to understand and easy to follow.

http://www.cnn.com
I love this website! When we do current events in soical studies, I can
have my student come to this site and pick a top story that interests them
and have them do more extensive research on the topic. My classroom students
enjoy this site because it provides graphic and detail pictures about what's
happening in the world. It's a great site to use when talking about elections
because the page is updated numerous time in a day to keep it current with
polls. It also allows the users a chance to download news if they missed
it earlier. I have students ask if they can use this feature with school
projects if it's appropriate. Instead of using video, they click on this
site and download the video clip. It's a very diversifed website.

http://www.firstgov.gov
This site would work well with any Government class. It gives descriptions
of each level in the Government and discusses the difference between local,
state, and federal. This site would be great if a teacher would want to do
a jig saw problem by splitting up the class in smaller groups and have them
do research on different parts of the Government and their functions. Not
only does this site offer information about the dimensions of the Government,
but it also has a listing of different types of Government work offered in
this field. It might make a student want to become more involved in politics.

Buried
Alive: Afghan women under the Taliban
http://mosaic.echonyc.com/~onissues/su98goodwin.html
Soical studies deal with different cultures and points of view. This site
allows Americans to view the life that women have to endure in Afghanistan.
Student could compare women's roles in Afghan to women in our own country.
This site offers an indelpth article and pictures discussing the mistreatment
Afghan women go through on a daily bases. It is a serious topic that can
be brought up in class and have an open discussion using this article as an
opener.

International:
The New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/pages/world/worldspecial/index.html
This website takes students to newspapers articles written in the New York
Times. I would offer this site as another news site to go to along with
CNN.com to give students a variety of sites to browse. They could compare
both News sites on the same subject matter and discuss why the same subject
may be written in different points of views. New York Times may be written
more on the stand point of New Yorkers as where CNN.com may report based off
facts from around the world. It's good to provide more then one news source
for students so they know how to use other search engines.
