I visited the stie
for Apex learning that offers students the chance to take AP courses on line.
Following the checklist, I think this site would receive high marks.
It provides a syllabus for all subject areas offered on the site. It
gives an outline of prerequists that students are reguied to take before
signing onto an online course. Each class is accompanied with appropriate
assignments that require the student to engage in critical thinking. It's
not just recall questions that are asked. the site also provides other
links for student to explore to give them more materila to research and hopefully
gain more ideas for their assignments. The site allows students to
express their new finds and opinions in a discussion room that becomes moderated
by the teacher.
The site also provides a link for teachers
to visit to get tips and suggestions on how to integrate different websites
with
particular subject matter. This gives the teachers new ideas and resources
to add to their online classes to enhance the learning styles of students.
But what the site lacks is a place for student who may nt be grasping
the material. There seems to lack accomendations for anyone who may
be lagging behind in the course work. Granted, it is AP courses but
it doesn't provide a place for questions or guide lines student might need
inorder to keep up with their work. Other then that, I thought it would
get a high mark on the evaluation because of the materials it provided student
on the website.
The second website I visited was teh
K12 educatino for a lifetime. At first, I was a littel confused by
the website. I wasn't too sure the purpose of the site. I had
to browse around the site before I truely understood it was a site for anyone
who may be home taught, on students who are taking classes on the interent,
and a place where teachers could come and get material for their own classes.
For someone hwo had a low attention span, I wouldn't suggest this site
unless you have patience. I need everything broken down for me on the
first page of the site. This site had different links with directions
as to why you were traveling to that site. Another I didn't like was
the fact that the title says K-12. I was expecting to see lessons for
high school but I only say lessons going as high as Middle school. I
didn't see any evidence of in-depth lessons with objectives, outcomes, and
procedures. It doesn't provided full length syllabuses but rather a
short over view of what the course will provide the student.
It does however provide a breakdown of courses that students
should have completed before thinking about takinge courses from this website.
It does breakdown what the course will review and how many hours it
will take to complete the course.
