Web Links Bibliography
I have
searched the web for many sites that I can use both for professional growth and
for information that I can use in the classroom. Here is bibliography
of some of the ones that ended up on my favorites list. You will find that I have used several of
them in the links and web pages below.
Course Module
This course module is an activity designed to teach teachers about the
use of IM in for educational purposes.
This is a lesson organized for teachers
to learn about IM and how it can be used in classrooms.
Search Engine favorites
The search
engine page is designed to show the benefits
of different search engines depending on the purpose of the search. There are too many sites for one to go
through individually to find information and search engines are used daily. Here is a composite of different search
engine sites that help serve different search functions.
CLASSROOM RESOURCES
email. The link here provides hints that
students can follow to use email effectively when communicating with teachers.

plagiarism. Here I provide information on plagiarism and how to prevent
it using the Internet as a tool.
http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/heinemanne/plagiarism.htm
collaboration. This link provides information on collaboration activities
that students can use in the science classes to work with students around the
world.

website
evaluation. I have created a checklist to
evaluate websites and have linked it here.
With the site you will find a link to a second page I have created that
uses the checklist to evaluate a couple of websites.

lesson
plans. Here I have compiled some useful sites for finding lesson
plans online for teachers to use. I
teach chemistry and so my focus here is chemistry lesson plans, but the many of
the sites I have chosen have home pages that can be used for finding lessons
for other subjects.

teacher
sites. Here I have organized two sites that
I have found on the Net that were created by teachers. The sites are chosen to benefit me as I teach
chemistry but they might be of interest even if you do not teach chemistry.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Density. This drop in is a link to an interactive density site that
will engage and involve students in the learning process. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/heinemanne/drop-in1.htm
Atomic
Spectra. This drop in is a link to a site that displays and compares
several atomic spectra. It provides an
activity that I have designed for students to use the site and compare the
spectra.

pH. Here I have created an activity using an interactive website
in which students can work with and explore the concept of pH by comparing that
of household chemicals.
http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/heinemanne/webdrop3.htm
acid rain. This activity is designed for students to compare several
sites and use the information found to complete an activity dealing with the
subject of acid rain.

chemical
reactions. In this activity students
learn about writing balanced chemical reactions by exploring 2 websites. They relate the concepts to information in
class and extend on knowledge by looking ahead.

Atomic
Structure. This activity is designed for
students to construct atoms from their basic particles and to eventually
identify what an isotope is and how to calculate the average atomic mass.

Electron
Configurations. This site works
through tutorials and notes using applets and web resources to write electron
configurations.

STUDENT RESOURCES
Lab
reports – here I have left instructions for writing a formal lab
report. The instructions were written
for my honors chemistry classes who were required to participate in a school
science fair by performing an independent project.
