Instructional Activities, Worksheets, Quizzes, and Puzzles

Elective #4

This assignment focuses on sites that would provide worksheets, quizzes, puzzles, graphic organizers and rubrics for middle school or high school social studies teachers.  Why should teachers have to recreate the wheel when it is already available.

Websites with more than just one option –

Discovery School – This link provides number teaching tools for an educator.   A teacher has the ability to create vocabulary worksheets, puzzles, and quizzes for their students.  This web site could be used by all grade levels (not only high school).

Kathy Schrock’s Guide for Educators – This site will provide links for Social Studies Teachers and others.  The link is set to the teacher helpers.  The teacher helpers include: rubrics and graphic organizers.

Political Cartoons –

These are links to the about.com web site.  This would benefit a social studies teacher in helping their students discover the elements in a political cartoon.

This is a link to a worksheet that a teacher may generate from a lesson site.  The lesson site itself is strictly about political cartoons so the worksheet is great.

Outline Maps –

The outline maps from Education Place are great.  This site provides teachers with blank maps for students to learn geography and put a place with history.  The maps are downloadable and printable.

Timelines –

This site provided through EdHelper.com give U.S. History teachers access to several time lines.   A teacher can also create their own time lines but membership to EdHelper.com is required.

Teach-nology was also suppose to have a link to creating time lines.  Each attempt at accessing the page was unsuccessful.

Graphic Organizers –

Another resource provided by EdHelper.com is a plethora of graphic organizers.  These graphic organizers can be used by all subject areas and grade levels.

This graphic organizer link is provided through enchanted learning.  There are so many options available to the teacher.  Not only does it provided numerous (and I mean numerous) organizers but also provides suggestions on how they can be used.

Rubrics –

A rubric template from Teach-nology.com is a teacher saver.  It has rubric templates for all sorts of assignments from timelines to general homework assignments to notebook checks.

Another wonderful rubric creator is from Rubristar.  This site provides templates for a teacher to create rubrics in all areas.  One can customize a rubric for virtually any assignment.  This site is going to the top of my favorites list.

Web Worksheet Creators –

A worksheet wizard provided by HPR*Tec is a good place to start building a worksheet for any subject; not just Social Studies.  On this site an educator can create a web document for their students to access.  All you have to do is sign up (for free) and begin creating following suggestions or established guidelines.

Quiz Creators –

A quiz creator provided by Quizstar will help any teacher build a quiz.  It might be most appropriate for middle school or high school teachers.  The teacher creates the quiz and then the students access the quiz online.  A report is then made available for the teacher on each student.
