TEACHER MADE WEB SITES

After trying numerous search terms to find teacher made web sites; I went with the terms of “teacher homepages” as one that garnered a response.

Teacher Web Page #1

Homepage for Mr. Peters  -- Date visited 02/28/05

http://www.lakelandschools.org/lhs/Peters/index.htm

This homepage was created for Mr. Peters’ High School Social Studies classes.  He has links to Global Studies and AP Psychology.  I have chosen to focus on the AP Psychology class.  He has included a variety of information for students and parents.  This information includes syllabus, class rules, assignments, and calendar.  There is also links the school homepage and the Social Studies Department.

Recommendations:

·        Keeping assignments and calendar up-to-date; the most recent assignments were for October.

·        Keeping class notes current; seemed to be a few modules behind

·        An important skill for AP classes is being able to write essays.  The link to Essay Tips went no where.  There needs to be a current link for students.

Commendations:

·        Opportunity to contact the instructor; by providing email link and a telephone number

·        Provided a link to the school homepage

·        There was a link to the textbook publisher’s webpage and to related Psychology sites.

The main concern for this teacher homepage was that the actual index was up-to-date but the homework assignments, calendar, and class notes were last updated in October.

Teacher Web Page #2

Homepage for Ms. Pojer – Date visited 02/28/05

http://www.historyteacher.net/

This homepage was created for Ms. Pojer’s Social Studies classes.  It seems to cover a variety of courses from AP American History to AP European History and Global Studies.  This website is beneficial to her students, parents, and other instructors.  It has links to the specific course, current events, history pages, newspapers.  It has a lot!

Recommendations:

·        It almost is too much information for one webpage.  It can be overwhelming to view.

·        Does not provide access to student grades or explain grading policy

·        Could be organized with links within the homepage; i.e. instead of listing all the media sites on the index page provide their own page through a link

Commendations

·        Very thorough; up-to-date

·        Each course has a its own link to specific information such as terms, PowerPoint, web links, for the AP courses there are practice exam questions

·        Provides a wealth of information on current events topics, websites related to Social Studies, and research sites

Overall this teacher webpage is a wealth of information.  It is a comprehensive site for students and parents.  It was difficult to find many recommendations for this teacher webpage.
