Course Module

My Favorites – In Internet Explorer

Objective – Students will become familiar on how to use Favorites in Internet Explorer (or Bookmarks in Netscape Navigator).

*Objective – Students will be able to create folders and subfolders in their Favorites (Bookmarks).

*Introduction – How many times have you come across a webpage and told yourself that you will remember the URL?  How many times have you forgotten?  Like many people we neglect the Favorites option in Internet Explorer (Bookmarks in Netscape) or even abuse the option.  Time spent developing and organizing your Favorites will pay off in the time spent searching or trying to remember that wonderful website.  This activity will take you through the process of using your Favorites efficiently.

*Activity – Using the following readings discover how using Favorites will make Internet Explorer more time friendly.

Learn the Net – This site offers directions and pictures of how to use Favorites or Bookmarks. http://www.learnthenet.com/english/html/17bookmark.htm

Webookmark – This is a helpful instruction guide for using Favorites or Bookmarks.  Select the browser that best suits you.

Not feeling sure of yourself?  Try a tutorial provided by the Calgary Public Library.  http://www.calgaryeducation.org/tutorials/iefavorites.htm

Still unsure of what to do?  Use the Help menu in Internet Explorer for …

help!  In the search box type the word “favorites.” This will display a page

explaining how to use favorites.

*Assignment – Create folders for Telecommunications and the Internet (SLM 521).  Go to your browser and find Favorites (Bookmarks).  Create a folder titled “SLM 521.”  Once there create four (4) subfolders for websites you have found to be “golden” for class (i.e. clip art).  A “Gold Star Student” might include folders and subfolders for all required and elective topics.  Include at least two (2) favorite websites for each subfolder.

*Submission - Send the instructor an email (no more than 300 words) describing your experience creating and organizing your favorites.  Include in your email a copy of your Favorites (This can be accomplished using the ‘send to’ option.)
