Fitness Team
Introduction:
Task:
Your task will be to design a fitness program for one of the three people listed below. You will need to develop a weight training program, an aerobic fitness program, and a diet. To do this you will become the Fitness Squad. Each Fitness Squad will be a team consisting of 3 members. Each member will become a specialist in one of the 3 roles. These roles are Weight Training Coach, Aerobic Specialist, and Dietician. The goal of the team is to design a program for your client, which considers their goals and interests. Use the resources below to gain information on each of your roles. Use the information you learn to design a program and present it to the class.
Clients:
Bill – Bill has the same problem that many Americans share, he is about 25 pounds overweight. He is 24 and is tired of the way he looks and feels. He wants to lose some weight and tone up. Bill works long days as an accountant and feels very tired and drained when he comes home. He wants to start a workout plan and become consistent at it. Bill enjoys fishing, hanging out with his friends, watching TV, swimming, and eating.
Susan – Susan is a high school senior. She is in good physical shape, mainly because of being on the soccer and softball teams. Susan is concerned that she will have trouble maintaining her weight and fitness level when she goes to college. She does not plan to be on any sports teams in college. Susan’s goals are to maintain her muscle tone, increase her strength and maintain or increase her cardio-vascular endurance. She enjoys activities with others, as well as the beach, sunbathing, jogging, and snowboarding.
Carl – Carl is a sophomore in high school who is tired of being so small. He weighs 130 pounds and wants to try out for the football team next year. Carl wants to put on 25 pounds of muscle in order to look better and improve his muscle size and strength. He loves football, and is interested in weight training. His activities include sleeping, playing video games, reading Muscle and Fitness, and playing football in his neighborhood. He wants a workout plan that will help him reach his goals.
Some things to consider before designing the program
1. What are their goals?
2. What are their interests?
3. What adaptations, if any, do they require?
4. How can you get them to accept your program and adhere to it?
5. What information can you provide them to help them be successful?
