Teacher Site Elective

Hopkins Road Elementary School

Description:  This is the physical education web page for Hopkins Road Elementary School in Richmond Virginia.  It gives the name of the physical education teacher for grades k-5.  The site also states that the physical education teacher directed the schools Field Day program.

Commendations:

1.  The web page is very well designed and attractive to look at.  The title and the colors make the page inviting to the eyes.

2.  The web page provides a link to the schools home page.  This is helpful if you wanted information about the rest of the school and its’ programs.

3.  The web page gives the name of the physical education teacher and mentions the Field Day program that he ran.  It also delivers a healthy message to those who read it.

Recommendations:

1.  The page does not have any description of the physical education program at all.  It should include a course description, the syllabus, and a grading policy at least.

2.  There is no link or e-mail address for the physical education teacher and we do not even know his first name.  Judging by the lack of information on the page, parents and even students may have questions they want to ask the teacher.  An e-mail address would make it easier to ask and answer these questions.

3.  I think that it would be a nice touch to put up some pictures of the staff and some of students engaged in a lesson.  They could also include a short biography of the staff.  It is nice to see the action and know about the staff’s qualifications and experiences.

Orchard Hill Elementary School

Description:  This is the web page of Orchard Hill Elementary School’s physical education program in Ohio.  The page lists the curriculum that the students will learn for grades one through five.  Specific activities are listed for each grade in accordance with the Nation Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) standards.  There is an e-mail address provided for the physical education staff.

Commendations:

1.  The activities for each grade are specified.  The curriculum follows the NASPE standards and is available for everyone to see.

2.  An e-mail address is provided so the parents, students, and fellow teacher have a channel to access the physical education staff in case of questions.

3.  The graphics and colors aid in the enjoyment of the site, making it more fun to use and explore.

Recommendations:

1.  A copy or outline of the course syllabus should be available.  There is no information on how the class will be set up and run.

2.  There should be a copy of the grading policy.  They list the activities that students will perform but do not specify how they will be evaluated.

3.  They should have a short biography on the physical education staff with pictures.  It would be nice to see the staff and have some background on them.
