Today we are going to learn about the Food Guide Pyramid that is above.  We use the Food Guide Pyramid as a general guide to healthy eating based on Dietary Guidelines.  The Pyramid is separated in to 6 different categories. 

1.   Fats, Oils & Sweets

2.   Milk, Yogurt & Cheese

3.   Meat, Poultry,  Fish, Dry Beans, Egg & Nuts

4.   Vegetables

5.   Fruit

6.   Bread, Cereal, Rice & Pasta

1.   Go to this Food Guide Pyramid website.

2.   Click on each Food Guide Pyramid category and read about each food group while taking notes in your learning log.

3.   After you have finished, answer the following questions for a quiz grade.

2.   What is the most effective way to cut down on the amount of fat and added sugar in your diet?

3.   What amount of cheese and yogurt count as one serving?  Why?

4.   Name 2 low fat milk desserts.

5.   Name 3 ways you can prepare meat in a low fat way.

6.   Give 2 examples in the Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs & Nuts that are low in fat.

7.   Name a vegetable that can replace meat.  Why?

8.   What are dark green leafy vegetables a source of?

9.   What is higher in fiber, whole fruit or fruit juices?

10. What is the percentage of fruit that must be present in juice for it to count as a fruit?

11. In order to get the fiber you need what kind of grains are necessary?

     12. Name a low fat alternative for cream in a recipe.
