Facts
Many of us have a million things to do each
day and not enough time to do it.
Finding time to get everything done is a chore in itself. How many of you eat fast food? If you are like many Americans, fast food is
a regular part of your daily diet. Most
parents do not have the time or the energy to make a home cooked meal every
evening. Why not go through the
drive-thru?
This
activity is designed to make you aware of the nutritional value of the food you
choose when you go through the drive-thru.
Activity:
1. Make a
food diary. (spiral notebook)
2. For one month, write down what you eat every time you get
fast food. If you do not eat fast
food, find someone who does and record
their choices.
3. After the month is complete visit this website, FatCalories.com.
4. On the first page of this website, there is an activity for
you to complete.
5. One at a time, enter in each fast food item that you have
consumed, and click search.
6. Find out
the amount of calories, saturated fat, and total fat in each item.
7. Write
down your results in your food diary.
8. Once you have finished, visit the following Life
Clinic: Food Pyramid website in order to get information for the following
quiz.

fast food dining experience and calculate how many calories are in the entire
meal?

How much
saturated fat is recommended for your daily diet?
3.
Did your
fast food choices exceed the recommended saturated fat amount for that day?
4.
Using the
Life Clinic: Food Pyramid website, look at the “So what’s your calorie
limit” paragraph and figure out your recommended calorie limit.
5.
Did your
fast food choice stay within your recommended daily calorie limit?
6.
Did this
activity change your views on fast food? How?
