Introduction:

Dieting is one of those things that is completely integrated into American culture. On any given day, a huge portion of the U.S. population is "on a diet" and "counting calories" in one way or another. And look at how many of the diet names in the following list you recognize:

The Atkins Diet

The Cabbage Soup Diet

The Grapefruit Diet

The Hollywood Miracle Diet

The Rice Diet

The Scarsdale Diet

The Zone Diet

You probably recognize many of these names because you hear them all the time!  You can probably even say a name with diet on the end and that type of diet works.  One of the most famous diets currently is the Atkins Diet.  This is partially due to all of the controversy behind this diet.

Information:

Dr. Atkins Diet falls under much attention due to the fact that when a person doing Atkins releases ketones, he or she is in ketosis. Ketosis occurs when you are taking in a very low level of carbohydrate from the food you eat, as you will during much of the weight-loss phases of Atkins. Ketones are secreted in the urine (and at times in one's breath), a perfectly normal and natural function of the body. The more ketones you release, the more fat you have dissolved.  Also the worse your breath will smell.  You will be exploring two websites that discuss the Atkins Diet.  The first is from the Atkins point of view and the second is from the American Heart Association.
