| Assignment | Create a list of five ideas for instructional activities that would use a webcam as a resource. For each activity, provide a link to a related webcam site, as well as an explanation of the instructional activity and description of how the webcam would be used in support. Butterfly emerging from a chrysalis. Part of a science lesson on caterpillars/ cocoons/ butterflies. Students could go to the web cam and view a butterfly emerging from the chrysalis. They could see first hand what happens to a cocoon/ caterpillar. The web cam would be used to show the students happens to the cocoon. Additional web cams could be used to show how a caterpillar makes a cocoon.

Rotation of the planets around the sun. This lesson will show the students how the earth orbits the sun and how that relates to day/ night, summer/ winter. The students can view this web page to see what parts of the earth are in the day and night. They can look at the web cam at different times during different days to see how the shaded region moves. There is another web cam that looks at the revolution of the moon.

Deformed frogs. This lesson could be about the harmful effects of chemicals. The students would research the different chemicals that are used as pesticides and herbicides. They would then see that the runoff from those chemicals ends up in creeks and ponds. The results can sometimes create genetically mutated creatures. Some of those creatures can be seen on-line.

Volcano Watch. Students can learn about volcanos. The different ways they form and what makes a volcano live/ active. They can then visit a couple of different web cams to look at volcanos.

Virtual Zoo. Students can learn about different animals. They can then walk through a virtual zoo to visit them and learn about their habitats.
