Course Module 1

Objective |
Students will be able to create and maintain an on-line bookmark page. |
Objective |
Students will be able to identify multiple websites that can be used to create on-line book marks. |
Introduction |
There are thousands of web pages out there.
Sometimes while we are browsing, we come across a site that we know we are
going to come back to later. We make a mental note of the web site's
name. Unfortunately, when next we sit down at the computer, we have
forgotten the name. Unless we can remember how we got there the first
time, we need help. To the rescue comes bookmarks.
Many of us have used bookmarks before. They are a very convenient way to store web pages. In fact, the designers of your operating system have purposely incorporated a bookmark program into your computer so that you will be able to return easily to any page you recently visited. The web pages are stored in a special place on your computer. But, what happens when you are not at your personal computer? You have no access to your bookmarks. That is just not convenient. There are a couple of web sites out there that store your bookmarks. So, anytime you go to the web, all you have to do is remember this website (and your username and password) and you have all your bookmarks. Most of the sites are free. |
Activity |
Go to the following web pages and browse them.
iKeepBookmarks.com - a web site that keeps your bookmarks. There
is a section for private bookmarks (only you can view them) and a public
section (that everybody can see). MyBookmarks.com - a web site that can take the bookmarks already existing in your browser and upload them to the web. A very handy feature. http://www.mybookmarks.com/ Or do a search and try and find other ways to keep bookmarks. |
| Assignment |
Join both of the lists and create an on-line bookmark
page. Or, alternately, if you have found a different web site, you may
create a bookmark page with that site. But, you must create at least
two bookmark pages. Send an email to your instructor with a link to
your bookmark pages. Then, go to the discussion on Blackboard entitled
"bookmarks" write a 250 word critique for each of the sites. Explain
what you think is good about each site and how the sites could be used in
the classroom. Then write about how you would improve the site.
Submit--once you have completed your critique, send your professor an e-mail notification complete with your web links. |
