Required Assignments

Web Link Bibliography – For this assignment I focused on Mark Twain, one of our most decorated literary authors of all time.  I set up each section into categories that centered around the web sites that I found.  Was very interesting the sites I cam up with, and this helped me out a ton in future projects in this class and can easily be useful for others.

Copyright – For this assignment I took a look at two of the scenario’s presented and decided if they were breaking the copyright laws or not.  This assignment was great because I learned so much that I was not aware about.   http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/flemingm/copyright.htm

Elective Activities

ClipArtFor this activity, clip Art is a very resourceful tool in your teaching career, because it can make a boring sheet of paper, or website comes to life with images that will amaze your fellow colleagues, students, and parents.  I have given you the top 5 websites I found that had an extensive amount of clip art, in about every subject you could imagine.  Although it can be time consuming, it is very beneficial to your teaching, and that you will use hundreds of times in your career. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/flemingm/clipart.htm

Evaluating WebSitesFor this activity, when it comes to evaluating websites, many people have different ideas of what criteria they would have to have within the website to make it credible.  Everyone has an idea in their mind of what they are looking for in a website, but one must some to a common ground on basic ideas that every credible website should have, so you are able to flow from one page to another.  Throughout this process, you may have brainstormed or sought secondary sources to help you come up with ideas, but in case you have not here are some of the characteristics it should have, and examples in what it should look like.

eLearningFor this activity I scanned a couple of sites you listed for virtual learning, I have chosen K12 & Class.com to discuss their approach to eLearning.  To me they were the most user friendly, easiest for a parent or future student to understand, and I covered both K-8, and high school. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/flemingm/eLearning.htm

Silicon Snake Oil – For this activity I took a look at Mr. Stoll’s website he addresses five main questions when he takes look at the internet & computers.  For each question I addressed the issue and offered suggestions on how to stay away from the negative and focus on the positive.  I will be taking from what I have learned in reviews and essays to base my answer for each question.

Lesson Plans – For this activity I tried to narrow down my choices by typing in “high school literature lesson plans” and came up with some wonderful sites that will be useful to teachers.  I can only hope that when I come up with a great lesson plan that people will see it on the internet and integrate it into their classroom setting!

Spam – For this activity I took a look at our evil friend spam.  I defined what spam is, how it can be a nuisance to those who have e-mail, how to prevent spam, and what the government is doing about combating this problem.  Under each category I gave some helpful hints on what an everyday person on the web can do to help get rid of all this useless spam that slows down our internet.  Very interesting information.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/flemingm/spam.htm

Online Presentation - For this activity I had done a class discussion concerning Nadine Gordimer and your short story “Town & Country Lovers.”  If I was a teacher, this would be a great PowerPoint presentation to present to the class since they would be able to see the questions on the screen, and would keep their interest.  Very beneficial if you do not have PowerPoint on your computer, since you are still able to view the presentation on the web.
