WEBQUEST LIST
This is a list of five Web Quests that deal with issues and topics related to the subject of Social Studies. These quests can enrich a teacher’s curriculum anywhere from the elementary school level to the high school level in most cases. Many of the quests can be adapted very easily to different grade levels. I have tried to rank them from most introductory to most specific in objectives to be met. Enjoy!!!
Trip
around the World: This quest deals with learning
about other countries and some of their social and cultural
characteristics. Students are asked to
take on the role of their chosen nation’s tourism chief and develop a project
that will entice people to visit their home country. It provides many great links to sites that show many aspects of
specific country’s cultures including flags, languages, artwork, and famous
people or landmarks. This quest can be
adapted anywhere from the middle school to the high school level. It can be found on the menu found at the
site below.

This
Land is Our Land: This quest provides a nice
introduction to the United States through the use of pictures and
identification exercises. Many of the excellent
photos give students engaging stories and clues that students have to use in
order to locate where this place is in the U.S.. This quest can be used at the elementary and middle school
levels. It provides a very easy to
follow scoring rubric to follow as well.

The
Buckaroo Investment Club: This quest
comes from the same site as the “Trip around the World.” It concerns an involved cooperative student
learning activity that takes the form of a stock market game. Students must pretend to buy and watch
stocks in order to create the “Perfect Portfolio.” They are encouraged to study and research main economic
indicators and research what happens in the global economy. It is highly recommended as an activity at
the high school level.

All
Quiet on the Western Front: This quest
serves as an excellent complement to having students reading this seminal piece
of literature on World War I. Students
are asked to become soldiers on a highly classified mission to gather
intelligence for their side during the war.
The quest allows for research into the history, strategy, famous people,
and weapons used during the war in order to complete their mission. As a plus, it is also very easy to
follow. It can be used at the middle
and high school levels.

Personal
Reflections on Vietnam: This quest allows a highly
detailed look into the events surrounding the Vietnam conflict in America. Students are asked to take on the role of
four different people who are affected by this terrible conflict in American
history. Each student must choose which
of the four people they want to take on the role of and research. After this research, they must defend their
person’s viewpoints in front of the class.
This activity is ideal for use in high school history classes.
