Writing Trait
#1 - Ideas and Content: Students will
become familiar with the criteria for assessing writing samples for ideas and
content, according to the 6+1 Writing Traits program from NWREL. They will use
a student rubric to grade writing samples, and then apply this knowledge to
create their own writing in response to a RAFT writing prompt. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/ferraral/521dropin1.htm
á
Writing
Trait #2 – Organization: Students will become familiar with the
criteria for Organization, the second of the 6+1 Writing traits. They will
color code an exemplary student writing sample to demonstrate understanding of
each element of the organization trait, and then begin their own application of
this trait by writing an introductory paragraph, using an interactive writing
site. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/ferraral/521dropin2.htm

Trait #3 – Voice: Students will become familiar with the definition
of voice in writing and how to apply it to their own writing. They will compare
several student writing samples to select an exemplary model for voice, and
then select 2 topics about which to write from differing points of view. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/ferraral/521dropin4.htm

reading the zoo map) and then write a descriptive article to attract visitors
to the same zoo! http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/ferraral/521dropin3.htm
