Presentations (Elective #11) This is a power point presentation that I completed for teachers and older students entitled Gender Bias in the classroom.  I presented this on July 9th to my Soc 508 class to explain how boys and girls are taught differently in today’s classroom.  The presentation explains how gender bias effects both boys and girls in school and suggests teaching strategies that promote equitable teaching. - http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/fasickp/gndrbias.htm

Webcams (Elective #13) This is a list of five webcams that can be used to support lesson plans in the elementary school classroom. The webcams are a butterfly cam , panda cam, Old Faithful geyser cam, Outer Bay cam, and Sedona cam. Dropin 1  This short web activity is titled Dream Vacations.  It is a language arts writing activity intended for fourth and fifth graders.  Students read an article entitled “Cool Vacation Destinations,” located on the kids.nationalgeographic.com website. They write down one fun thing they would like to do at each destination. Dropin 2 This web activity is titled The Bald Eagle. It is a social studies activity intended for upper elementary grade students.  Students visit two fun websites to gather information to fill out a worksheet about bald eagles.  They gather the information from both National Geographical for Kids: Creature Feature and Ben’s Guide to US Government for Kids. - http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/fasickp/drop2.htm

 

Dropin 3 This web activity is titled Tour Colonial Williamsburg.  It is a social studies activity intended for upper elementary grade students.  Students visit a Williamsburg tourism website and use an interactive map to tour the historic city.  The map allows them to walk through time in the 18th century by clicking and moving their mouse over buildings and characters of the colonial city.  As they locate different historic buildings, shops, and characters on the map, they learn interesting information and answer a related question activity. - http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/fasickp/drop3.htm

 

Dropin 4 This web activity is titled Year Round School?  It is an ILA activity for upper elementary students. Students form and express their opinions about year round schools. First, they visit websites to understand both sides of the debate. Dropin 5 This web activity is titled Comparing the moon to Earth. It is a science activity intended for fourth and fifth graders.
