Impressionism and My Favorite Artists
This page contains information on impressionistic art and my favorite
artists that used this style of painting.
I created this site to show others what impressionistic style art
is. You are able to read about
impressionism and my favorite artists.
You can also view the artwork. I
have only submitted what I thought was the best sites for each artist.
Impressionism – A style of painting achieved through the use of unmixed primary colors to produce a scene or object showing the reflected light.
This site gives an in-depth look at Impressionism: definition, period, artists, and public opinion. http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/glo/impressionism/
Four of my favorite artists:
Degas: 1834-1917
Edgar Degas was best known for his mastery of the human figure in motion. He was probably best known for the ballerinas he painted. This site contains both bibliographical information and samples of his work. You can also go to a museum site from this to view more of Degas work. http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/degas/
Monet: 1840-1926
Claude Monet was the most popular of all impressionistic artists. He was the only original painter of the movement to stay true to Impressionism. Monet mostly painted outdoor landscapes. The technique he and Renoir created was the “broken color technique”. Monet was always well exhibited and you will find many museum sites to view his work linked to this site. You can also view articles and related issues to impressionism and Claude Monet here. http://www.absolutearts.org/masters/names/Monet_Claude.html
Renoir: 1841-1919
Auguste Renoir once said: "Why shouldn't art be pretty? There are enough unpleasant things in the world." That was Renoir’s philosophy. He painted mostly people and studied from the masters. His most popular painting was, “Dance in the City.” This site gives bibliographical information on Renoir, books on Renoir, prints for sale and links to other sites about Renoir. I recommend looking at the “Links” page. The “Gallery” page gives you the best seat to see Renoir’s artwork over the web.
Cézanne: 1839-1906
Paul Cézanne was considered one of the greatest artists of all time. His impacted continued in all other movements after him they say. He is referred to as the father of modern art. You can read more about Cézanne and view his works on this site. View Cézanne’s art by category. His intensity of color and compositional order are highly original. Books, reviews and posters are also available for sale on this site. I used the screen saver for my computer … try it. http://www.artchive.com/artchive/ftptoc/cezanne_ext.html

This is the perfect site for teachers on Impressionism. You can download lessons that have Impressionistic themes or make connections to museums that had Impressionism exhibits. My favorite feature of this site is the guided tour. The tour is a fun way to have class experience impressionism. http://www.impressionism.org/
Want to do a Web quest on Impressionism? Then here is the site for you. This site provides an overview of Impressionism asks questions and gives a task to be done. A presentation is then followed up with an evaluation. http://www.spa3.k12.sc.us/WebQuests/Impressionism/
